Welcome to Bill and Mary Mushroom’s Gourmet Mushroom Farm Blog! Today, we want to share with you some tips and tricks for growing Oyster Mushrooms locally using supplemented sawdust and Unicorn grow bags.

Oyster Mushrooms are a delicious and healthy addition to any meal, and they can be grown easily and affordably right in your own home. To get started, you will need to gather some supplies. You will need Unicorn grow bags, supplemented sawdust, and Oyster Mushroom spawn.

First, fill the Unicorn grow bags with the supplemented sawdust. The supplemented sawdust is a combination of sawdust, wheat bran, and gypsum, which provides the nutrients that the mushrooms need to grow. Make sure to fill the bags to about three-quarters full.

Next, sterilize the sawdust in the bags by placing them in a large pot of boiling water for about an hour. This will kill any bacteria or other organisms that could interfere with the growth of the mushrooms.

Once the bags have cooled, add the Oyster Mushroom spawn to the bags. You can purchase Oyster Mushroom spawn online or from a local supplier.

Seal the bags and poke several small holes in them to allow for air flow. Place the bags in a warm, dark location, such as a closet or a garage, and let them incubate for about 10-14 days.

After the mushrooms have fully colonized the sawdust, move the bags to a cool and humid location, such as a basement or a root cellar. The mushrooms will begin to grow within a week, and you can harvest them by twisting and pulling them from the sawdust.

Growing Oyster Mushrooms using supplemented sawdust and Unicorn grow bags is a fun and rewarding way to bring fresh and delicious mushrooms to your table. Give it a try and let us know how it goes!
